2022 Combined Event Championships
The 2022 Combined Event Championships took place on January 22nd and 23rd, at the WA Athletics Stadium. Ridgewood LAC had 11 athletes competing across the weekend with 2 contesting the Masters Events, 2 contesting the AW Senior Championships and the remaining 7 contesting the Little Athletics Championship events in their respective age groups.
Day 1 of 2 commenced with the Heptathlon events for Jesse West & Tyson Phillips (U16 LA-M), Jasmin Goodridge & Olivia Williams (U16 AW-W), and Carmen Goodridge & Rachel Williams (Masters W) all taking to the track in the Sprint Hurdles events, followed by High Jump and Shot Put in the field and concluding the day with the 200m.
In the Pentathlon, Travarn Ackerman & Liam Barnes (U12 LA-M) and Pedro Manzoli de Moura & Witahana Pakau (U11 LA-M) each contested the 100m, Long Jump, 80m Hurdles, Discus and 800m to round out the competitors on Day 1 of competition.
Day 2 saw all of our Heptathlon athletes return to the arena for the Long Jump and Javelin events in the field. The Heptathlon concluded with the 800m for the Women, whilst Jesse & Tyson concluded their two days of competition with the 1500m.
Day 2 also saw Sophie Williams (U13 LA-W) compete in the Pentathlon, contesting 200m, Long Jump, 80m Hurdles, Shot Put and 800m.
Whilst the Ridgewood LAC team was small, they were mighty with Tyson Phillips (U16 LA-M), Sophie Williams (U13 LA-W) and Witahana Pakau (U11 LA-M) all securing BRONZE Medals for their efforts across the weekend.
Travarn Ackerman (U12 LA-M) finished 6th, Pedro Manzoli de Moura (U11 LA-M) finished 8th, Jesse West (U16 LA-M) finished 11th, and Liam Barnes (U12 LA-M) finished 12th, rounding out a great level of competition in the Little Athletics Championships.
Olivia Williams and Jasmin Goodridge (U16 AW-W) battled each other across the weekend to finish 1-2 respectively, whilst Rachel Williams and Carmen Goodridge competing in the Masters Combined Event Championships finished 2nd and 3rd respectively. A true display of Family, Fun and Fitness with these four athletes competing alongside each other throughout the weekend due to the structure of the timetable and number of athletes in each group.
Another successful weekend for all of the Ridgewood LAC athletes, hopefully Ridgewood LAC will see more athletes contest this event next season and maybe even see some athletes qualify for National Competitions.
Once again CONGRATULATIONS to all of Team Ridgewood LAC.
